About us

The research program “Modernity, Identity, Power” (MIM) has evolved in the research environment of international politics at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg. The initial steps in developing the program were taken around the year of the millennium, and grew rapidly to a discussion among several different fields of research concerning questions of globalisation. The main subject of analysis is society changes as a consequence of the communicative revolution – changes which are characterised by an individualisation and destabilisation of the social and the political life, internationally as well as within single national states.

The current MIM-program is first and foremost a collaboration among political scientists, media and communication scientists, sociologists and peace scientists. One of the program’s principal ideas is openness towards all academic disciplines; therefore we strive for a continued evolvement of the program.

The network arranges academic seminars and yearly conferences, but also tries to spread knowledge of other seminars and publications within our field of interest. We try to support each other in the work of financing our research within the sphere of MIM. We publish our work in different forums with the aim to create a larger debate and discussion concerning the effects of globalisation in terms of individualisation and destabilisation.

The MIM-program has a management group enclosing Ulf Bjereld, Marie Demker, Monika Djerf-Pierre, Ann-Marie Ekengren and Alexa Robertson.
